Obituary of John Michael Lennon

Lennon, John Michael, age 89, of Rocky Point, New York died Sunday, March 21, 2021. John was born June 9, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York. He resided in The NY Foundling Hospital until age 3 and was adopted by John and Catherine Lennon from Rutherford, NJ in 1934. They lived in New Jersey until the death of his adopted father in 1935. John and his mother Catherine then moved to 5008 Broadway NY, NY 10034. John enlisted in the USAF and spent from 1949 to 1953 in the service during the Korean War. He was first stationed in Mississippi and then transferred to Alaska. He completed his tour in Atlantic Highlands, NJ. John was honorably discharged in July of 1953. John's mother Catherine died in the summer of 1953 shortly after he met the love of his life. John met Mary Joan Balga at a church social at St. Brendan's in the Bronx. John and Mary married on September 5, 1953 at Good Shepard Church in Inwood, NY. They were married for almost 68 years. After they married, they resided at 5008 Broadway NY, NY in Apt 5I. John and Mary raised 2 beautiful smart talented daughters. Susan born in 1957 and Diane (extra smart) born in 1959. He had 2 wonderful sons-in-law (Kevin and Chris). His 4 amazing grandsons are John, Robert, Daniel, and Thomas. And to complete the family, he had the cutest great grandsons (Edwin and Archer). John obtained his Bachelor's of Art Degree at Pace University in Manhattan, NY. His last career was as Senior Security Supervisor at the Metropolitan Museum of Art where he worked with many celebrities such as Caroline Kennedy. His affiliations include Grand Knight at the Knights of Columbus, St. Jude division, New York City, Lifetime membership in the Knights of Columbus, Rocky Point, NY, Good Shepherd Church, Inwood, NY as a volunteer, Usher, Actor Paul List Players, St. Anthony's Church, Rocky Point, NY as a volunteer, Usher, Poet Laureate, Member of the Rocky Point Civic Association and Longtime member of the North Shore Beach, Rocky Point, NY. Post retirement career was with the Community Journal in Wading River, NY as a Writer, Poet Laureate and Police reporter. All arrangements were private and entrusted to the Rocky Point Funeral Home, 603 Route 25A, Rocky Point, NY 11778. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at St. Anthony of Padua R.C.
