Obituary of Elizabeth Morehouse
Elizabeth (Betty) Morehouse, age 90, of Ridge, New York died Sunday, October 23, 2022 after a long battle with Dementia and Alzheimer's disease with her daughters by her side. Elizabeth was born April 29, 1932 in Richmond Hill, Queens of Hungarian immigrants, the late William and the late Elizabeth (Popovics) Ronai and spoke fluent Hungarian all of her life. She had an older brother William (Bill) Ronai. She married James Morehouse on March 20, 1954 and they spent their honeymoon crossing the country by car while Jim played AA baseball for the Gastonia Browns. They lived in Queens for a time where they started their family before moving to Brentwood, New York, then to East Norwich and Locust Valley and then to Leisure Village in Ridge, New York, where they spent their golden years together. As so many women were in the 50's, Betty was a proud housewife and mother, raising four daughters – Judi, Ellen, Sally and Lisa. She also gave birth to a son, Michael, who died shortly after his birth in the mid 50's. She kept her home meticulously, shepherded her children through school, Brownies, Girl Scouts and sports and provided them with the foundations of religious faith. She was strong-willed and resilient, carrying on through several difficult losses throughout her life. Betty prided herself on her Hungarian heritage, making Hungarian meals for her family, trying her best to pass Hungarian recipes, language, traditions and music down to her children and grandchildren, even playing the accordion on occasion! She loved gardening, and was always up for a party. Betty leaves behind a large family – two daughters, Sally Fritz and Lisa Diaz (Drew), with her late husband Jim and two daughters predeceasing her: Judi Maddox (John) and Ellen Bacotti (Frank). She is also survived by seven grandchildren six great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is already missed, will be remembered as Mommy, Nanny and Aunt Betty, and her traditions and strength will live on through her family. All arrangements have been entrusted to the Rocky Point Funeral Home, 603 Route 25A, Rocky Point, New York.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 716 Route 25A, Rocky Point, New York.
